GENUINELY NATIONAL in Stockholm

Welcome to the exhibition „GENUINELY NATIONAL”!
Exhibition of Terje Ennomäe’s jewellery in national style is opened from 24th of April until 10th of May 2009, hosted by Estonian House of Stockholm at Wallingatan 34.
Estonian folk traditions have a long history. Almost every village had its own design and fashion which was enlivened by the following generations with slight enhancements. Each craftsman contributed to the elaboration. The development of national costumes ceased in the 1940’s during the upheaval of the world.
At this exhibition you can see the old traditions presented in an original way: traditional motives, patterns and ornaments shaped into a novel material.
You can recognise national dress stripes, embroidered flower patterns, Mulgi archaic embroidery details, mittens’ letter, Setu lace and embroidery elements, and national colours.
Estonian folk traditions thrive if they inspire to create something new, something that reminds of the past and yet takes into account the present.
Enjoy the exhibition!

I would like to thank the Estonian Cultural Society, the Estonian Institute, Club Estetic, the Estonian National Congress of Sweden for their help and support!
